Wood Elves!

I finally got around to taking some pics of what I have been working on for my OldWorld Rampant project. As I just finished painting up my Forest Dragon for my Wood Elf warband, I thought that I would start off with them.

I envisioned the Wood Elves being a small, but elite force to be reckoned with. The overall warband is small in numbers, but are of high points value. I'm not sure how these will actually play, but they feel right and seem like they will be fun to play.

The points for this force comes to 40pts, with a figure count of only 16. While only 16 figures strong (at the full 40pts) they seem like they will pack a whallop, but in a glass cannon fashion - striking hard, but no endurance in the long-run; guerrilla fighters.

First up,

Next up, we have the Twins; Berel and Mithra, both having been blessed by Kurnous with an affinity for animals. Berel has the ability to transform in a gigantic wild boar, while Mithra is able to communicate with her spiritual falcon and perform minor magics.

Berel

Shapechanger, based on Light Foot profile. Berel also has the Hero characteristic which is included in the points profile.

Mithra

Based on Scout profile. Mithra also has the Hero attribute, which has been included in the points profile. I included Wizardling as an upgrade as a way to reflect her spiritual Falcon's ability to harass/damage opponents. I envision her spells being, Befuddle Thee! (Buffeted by magical wings), Almighty Prod! (Encourages by its spiritual presence) and Banish Fear! (Emboldened by its spiritual presence)

Mithra can also use the standard Shoot characteristic to represent her falcon attacking the enemy.

OldHammer Rampant

Just a few ideas for converting OldHammer to Dragon Rampant. I wanted to capture the importance of Heroes from WFB, without making them over-powered. I still need to playlets the rules, but it feel right.

Estalia in the Old World

My Old World project is beginning to take off. I have quite a few units in the wings ready to paint, and I am ready to get my first game in of Old World Rampant. But, I still have to paint up quite a bit more before that happens.

I wanted to do something a little different with this project and not stick to the same ol' races in WFB. Thats not to say that I will not be doing Orcs, Elves, and such, but I wanted to show a little bit of love for the lesser known/used races. With this in mind, I looked through the WFB 3rd ed. army book and came across the mercenary list for Old Worlds, specifically Estalia. I decided that an Estalia mercenary unit would be great to see on the game table.

I was able to find a great set of 28mm Conquistador miniatures from Eureka USA. They look great and paint up very well. I also got a pack from Foundry Miniatures to round out the selection, but they have not arrived yet from the UK.

Old World, New Rules

With GW announcing recently that they were revisiting the Old Word I was excited. I was hoping for a return to the old Rank & File world, and looking forward to the new iteration of Warhammer Fantasy Battle (WFB). However, I soon realized that this was just nostalgia coloring my thoughts. When I think back on the various iteration of the rules, WFB 3rd edition is what comes to mind with a certain fondness - warts and all. While I would like to see a resurgence of the Old World, I remember that I really do not like the WFB rules.  They are complicated and do not play consistently with the various armies and troop choices, which leaves some flavor out of the game in favor of the ultimate game winning unit or Hero.

While I pondered on the Old World that was, and what could be, I wondered if I could port the Old World into the present and use a system that I like. I quickly decided on Lion/Dragon Rampant as my choice of rules.

I have been slowly building up some new Warbands, as well as rebasing some of the old ones, to fit in with the Rampant basing system. I will be focusing mainly on the 3rd edition world, but will add in some flavor of the new.

With that said, below is my first unit for my Empire Warband - the Sisters of Sigmar. While the Sisters are not covered in the 3rd ed, but I decided I would add them into the Old World as I had the minis for Mordheim, and wanted to start painting something for this project.

I am undecided at this time if I will leave them as a 10 person unit. The Rampant rules have units as either reduced model count, 6 figures, or 12 figures. I have contemplated using 10 figures as this ties in with WFB units being mainly 10 figures, or in multiples of 5, with the leader taking 3 wounds to remove - thus still providing 12 wounds for the unit. I will have to wait to see how gameplay works out - I do not want to have to remember any exceptions as I am playing.

Lion Rampant for Ancients

I had these Ancient Germans painted up for a while, but as usual, they sat in a box and were never expanded upon. They have found new life in an ancients adaptation of Lion Rampant; Crepusculum Imperii. After I ran across these rules I quickly rebased the Germans and added a few cavalry (more coming) to round out my force.

Lion Rampant, and all of its off-shoots, has been really popular with my current gaming group, which has given me a chance to actually play with my minis!! It’s really nice to not only paint my minis, but to also see them on a gaming table.

I have some Sarmaritans in the wings (still debating on whether to base them for Impetus) and some ideas on adding other forces - but we will see what the magpie in me has to say about that.

The pictures are awful, but I only have my camera phone to with for at the moment. All of the foot are from Warlord Games, while the mounted are from Old Glory. I did use one of the riders from the Warlord Games range, but I found that their horse's legs were too spindly and subject to bending, so I opted to use the horses and riders from OG.
