It had been too long since my last post! School has kept me pretty busy this semester, more so than usual. Finals start today, so I will have a week off before summer classes start!
Even though I have not posted much, I have had the opportunity to paint here and there - but nothing historical. I recently joined a new gaming group (after not being in one for two years), and they only play Games Workshop games. So, I have been painting up some Space Marines. I am hoping that in time I can introduce some historical games to the mix.
This isn't a bad turn of events, as 40k was the very first miniatures game I played way back in ~1989, except we called it Rogue Trader at that time :) RT introduced me to the joys of gaming which I have been a part of ever since! We are playing 7th edition, which is a stinker (much different from 2nd, which was the last edition I played) but I am looking forward to 8th, based on the updates released from GW.
I have two armies painted up - the old RT era Dark Angels, and a newer era Flesh Tearers. I will be posting some pics of both very soon.
Also, GW has released Shadow Wars, which is just a newer version of Necromunda in my opinion - which I played back in the day. I am working on a few Kill Teams/Gangs for that as well. Many of the people in my new group are in the lower 20's, so only know of some of the older games as being a part of GW history, whereas for me they were something that I cut my teeth on.
All in all, it is nice to be a part of a gaming group again. Even though I have not been painting/playing anything historical lately, it's nice to get back to my roots.

Project Planning 2017
I had to take a step back and take a hard look at my current projects to create some sense of order to them. As I mentioned in a previous post, I severely lack storage space, but I realized that I could continue with my current, and future projects if I planned them out accordingly. Doing my projects in a certain sequence will allow me to remove some clutter and make available some much-needed space. I had to downsize some of the projects' scale, but that is ok, as I can always add to them in the future when we finally build a house.
So here is the plan through February-March (School/Travel permitting)
So here is the plan through February-March (School/Travel permitting)
- January: Complete 1/72 Reconquista project. (98% done with Andalusians, 40% done with Catalan) Might be a little optimistic finishing in January as I have a trip late in the month.
- February-March: Complete 1/72 Samurai Project. 65% done with Army of West, 0% done with Army of East (or vice versa, I get them turned around sometimes)
- March - onward: Unknown. I have some things in mind (Song of Blades and Heroes, Frostgrave...skirmish type stuff) but will have to see what storage under the bed and cabinets look like by then 😀 There is always something shiny to catch my attention.
Fingers crossed on staying on track!
Happy New Year!
